Blue Cross is an aged care services provider that provides community care services to elderly people and people with disabilities. Community care service packages are provided to meet physical, medical, cultural and social needs of the care recipients. Community care services provided to the care recipients include home care services, respite care services, supported holiday services and referral services for suitable convalescence as well as permanent residential accommodation in aged care facilities.
Blue Cross operates 75 Federal Government funded community aged care packages (CACP) in Melbourne and offers these funded packages to care recipients who are assessed to be eligible by their local Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS) agencies. Professional case management services are also provided to those clients who have not been assessed to receive CACPs. These community care packages include personal care services involving assistance with dressing, washing and laundry, arranging social activities, transport to medical appointments as well as administration of medication.
Convalescence and recuperative enhancement (CARE) services are provided to those clients who are covered under HBA health insurance schemes and who find it difficult to return home immediately after hospitalisation. These recuperative care services are provided in a comfortable environment such as an aged care facility to restore health, mobility and independence to the care recipients before they return to their homes. Community care services provided under the CARE programs include private bedrooms with en-suites, meals, laundry services, emergency call systems, 24-hour access to emergency care services, allied health services and monitoring services during the recovery of the care recipients.
