Enware Caredesign  has introduced a convenient and adaptable nursing bench for the aged care, healthcare, education and leisure segments.

Caredesign’s nursing benches are designed for care providers to deliver a superior level of personal care to elderly patients or people with disabilities. The nursing bench can be electrically raised and lowered to appropriate heights for various activities.

Sandor Franken, Business Development Manager for Enware Caredesign explains that the nursing bench is designed for function, comfort and safety, and comes with an ergonomic design.

The nursing bench can be lowered to a suitable height for transfer from a wheelchair and then raised to a convenient working height for the carer in instances where a person needs to be showered while lying down. Features such as an ergonomic design as well as padded and protected surfaces of the nursing bench ensure comfort and safety for the patient.

The nursing bench, end caps and the safety rail brackets are covered with polyurethane foam for the comfort of the disabled person. The slightly curved form of the bench makes it extremely secure and safe.

According to Mr Franken, a nursing bench is used for washing a person, changing their clothes or providing care, such as applying bandages or medication. In all cases, carers have to follow OH&S guidelines, which mostly include a ‘no lifting’ policy.

Application areas for the Caredesign nursing bench:

  • Healthcare: Disability facilities, childcare centres, hospitals and residential centres
  • Aged care: Nursing homes and shared housing facilities
  • Education: Universities, schools and childcare centres
  • Leisure: Aquatic centres and gymnasiums
Bathrooms

The nursing bench is typically installed in a disabled bathroom against a wall to allow for proper care for the disabled individual while ensuring an appropriate work environment for the carer without having to bend down or lift.

Aquatic centres and gyms

The nursing bench is lowered to assist with the transfer of a disabled person from a wheelchair following a pool or workout session. The bench can then be raised to allow the carer to shower the person lying on the bench. The tray under the nursing bench allows the water to drain away without spilling onto the carer’s legs.

Schools and childcare centres

The nursing bench is used by carers of children with disabilities who are attending school. When the child needs personal care or cleaning, the carer can take the child to the disabled bathroom with a nursing bench installed. The child can be transferred to the lowered bench, following which the bench can be raised to a higher level for the carer to attend to the child.

Ideal for use in both wet and dry areas, the nursing bench features a water collection tray with an integrated water outlet that prevents water from splashing on carers or the floor. A flexible hose attached to the centre-mounted outlet of the water collection tray floor can be connected to an outlet either in the floor or on the wall.

The nursing bench comes with accessories including a shower head, shower mixer, baskets and bathroom accessories.
