Hi there!
With 15 years of experience in aged and home care—and over 20 years of clinical experience—I help care leaders and teams navigate complexity with strength and compassion. I’ve delivered more than 100 workshops on resilience, workplace wellbeing, and values-driven leadership—equipping professionals to care for themselves as much as they care for others.
READ MY STORYI’m Julie
I’m a registered psychologist, experienced researcher, and author—deeply passionate about aged care.
My connection with older people began early. As a young girl, I would buy flowers from a kind elderly man with Parkinson’s disease. That simple, recurring moment planted the seeds of empathy and purpose that continue to guide my work today. In 2011, I founded Wise Care to turn that passion into practical change.
At the heart of my work is a profound respect for older people and a commitment to fostering empathy in their caregivers.
My doctorate research focused on wellbeing in home care workers, and my postdoctoral work explored supported decision-making in dementia—both areas that continue to shape my workshops, writing, and advocacy.
I invite you to explore my work, join the conversation, and be part of a movement that centres dignity, care, and compassion in everything we do.
Today, I speak and consult on building healthy, sustainable work cultures in care—grounded in lived experience, practical insight, and a deep respect for human dignity.

Why I do this work, and why I won’t stop.
Â
I’ve always been drawn to humans—what moves us, what breaks us open, and what helps us heal. As a psychologist with 20 years of clinical experience, including 15 years in aged and home care, I’ve witnessed up close the quiet strength and everyday heartbreak woven through this work.
But I’ve also lived it.
I’ve felt the emotional load that builds when you’re doing your best with very little left to give. I know what burnout feels like—not in theory, but in my bones. And I know the difference it makes when someone offers the right kind of support at the right time.
Throughout my career—in disability support, aged care, and now as a workshop facilitator and consultant—I’ve come to understand something essential:
LET'S TALKAged care cannot be empowered unless we are.:
And we can’t be at our best if we’re constantly running on empty.
Whether you're navigating the slow decline or sudden loss of a client, supporting a complex family through crisis, or managing the dynamics of a stretched team—this work is deeply human. It asks for courage, clarity, and care. And it demands that we learn how to look after ourselves, not just our clients.
That’s why I do what I do.
I draw from my lived experience, my research, and the evidence of my peers to support care professionals and leaders to lead well, care deeply, and stay whole. Not just for the sake of retention or policy—but because your wellbeing matters. And because culture shifts when people feel safe enough to speak, supported enough to stay, and empowered enough to lead.
Thanks for joining me on this journey. Together, let’s create something lasting—one conversation, one team, one heart at a time.
Julie
